We loved learning about pollination with this fun experiment. Each child was given a juice box and a plate of cheetos. Students took a sip of nectar (juice) and a bite from a cheeto. The cheese from the cheetos was dropped on flowers as the children enjoyed their treats. The students would continue taking sips of nectar and leaving pollen all around the room from the cheese on the cheetos. .

We had our first Art appreciation presentation today. The children learned about the artist Michelangelo Buonarroti. They tried to emulate his work by drawing under their desks. What fun!!!!
Jack's sister and former student Izzy came in today to be our Mystery Reader. Izzy did a wonderful job sharing an Elephant and Piggy book and a Halloween story. We completed a spider web Stem challenge. The goal was to build a spider web that would support the greatest number of spiders using only yarn, tape and 2 cups. After designing a plan students started to build. Some of our students tested outcome strong webs. We love building and planning to solve challenges.
WE loved our first High Touch-High Tech science program! We were able to feel and observe different parts of animals. We felt snake skin, the jaws of an animal to determine a predator or prey, feathers, and shells that animals use as homes. As we were learning about the food chain and producers and consumers we were able to dissect an owl pellet. We could see bones and other materials inside. Last, we looked at how ecosystems are being destroyed and how dangerous it can be to the food chain. We learned how scientists begin to clean up an oil spill and we each received a cup of hydrophobic sand so we can continue to explore at home. We love science!
Today we enjoyed an assembly called the Diversity Circus sponsored by the BFA. Children learned that it's okay to be different and to include others when possible. The circus introduced important lessons in a very entertaining way. Our friends Pravit and Leah were lucky enough to be chosen as participants for today's performance.
We loved meeting with our buddies to complete our first challenge. Our mission was to build a house strong enough to survive the Big Bad Hair dryer! However, we were only given index cards and tape. We learned through many trials that we needed to change designs or add things to make our structures strong. We love celebrating birthdays with our classmates! We started with the birthday dance and enjoyed donuts after. Happy Birthday Jules!
Today we learned how to use the drawing tools in Seesaw. We each created a math problem and then recorded ourselves solving the problem. Please be sure to look at your child's portfolio.
We are working hard on our communities. We learned that every community has places to live, work, play and solve problems. Groups formed and decided if they wanted to build urban, suburban or rural communities. We are looking forward to finishing up next week.
