WE had a Spooktacular time at our Halloween party! Special thanks to the room parents for planning such a "fang"ttastic party! Students felt creepy items in buckets, made mummy lanterns, played pumpkin buckets and did the broomstick limbo! After all the activities, they enjoyed some treats that they really sunk their vampire teeth in!

Today we learned about fire safety and what to do in the event of an emergency. Special thanks to the Libertyville Fire Department for going through the steps of what to do and what not to do. Now we are prepared!
Dear Parents, We just finished reading Flat Stanley as a read aloud in class. The kids love him! If you are not familiar with Stanley, he is a young boy who is accidentally flattened like a pancake after a bulletin board falls onto him while he is sleeping. Stanley is fine now, just flat. The story then describes some advantages Stanley discovers being only a half inch thick. He can slide under doors, climb down into sidewalk grates, and even fold himself small enough to fit inside of an envelope to be mailed to a friend in another state. We have decided it would be fun to make our own Stanley figure and send him off to visit the world. This will help us to develop our geography skills of the United States, or our knowledge of other countries around the world. We are looking for friends or family members to host Stanley and then let us know about what exciting things he has learned on his adventures. The "host" will need to write back and send a picture or two of his adventures. They may like to include a post card from their city or other souvenirs from their adventure. We will be tracking on a map in our classroom the places he has been and will share the letters we receive as well as the pictures. Please discuss with your child a person or persons you think that would like to host Stanley for a visit. Please send in an addressed envelope(s) of one or more friends or family members to support us with our project. I will provide the postage and we will eagerly await a return letter describing the adventures Stanley has had while away. I will keep you posted about where he has been. Thank you for your support! Krista Panock Mr. Soling came in this afternoon to be our Mystery Reader. We enjoyed the books, The Book With No Pictures and Press Here. We loved both stories!
Students worked in partners quizzing one another to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.
Today we completed an engineering challenge. We worked in cooperative groups to build a monster. The monster needed to include: smooth properties, fuzzy properties, flexible properties, the ability to stand on its own with a height of no more than 40 c.m. A variety of items were for sale and each group had $20.00 to spend. Future pictures of finished monsters will be posted at a later date. Enjoy!
