We learned about animal adaptations and ecosystems.
This week we started the comprehension strategy of Imaging. . As children read we are encouraging them to put pictures in their head of the words they are using. We are asking them to incorporate their senses and draw what it is they are seeing. Essentially we are asking them to play a movie in their head. WE read Me…Jane and children visualized what Jane enjoyed in her life. Then, we took some poetry and asked students to draw a picture of what the poem had them visualize. Next week we will begin a read aloud and I will ask students to visualize the characters and what they are learning as I read.
Grammar: This week we focused on comparative adjectives. We are working on when to add er or est. We also addressed when we change the y to an I and add er. We are also addressing that at times we will need to say more. Writing Focus: We have been writing, writing, writing! Our goal was to finish up all research and get as much of the writing finished as possible. This week we completed the Table of contents, Introduction and finished many of our chapters. I have spent a great deal of time conferencing and editing with the students so that they can write a final copy. We also completed our covers for our books and the photos to include. We have been busy bees! Math: We started the year with telling time math to honor leap year. We are reviewing what we know and played bingo to the five- minute mark. The children especially enjoyed the Skittles we used as markers. Unit 4 continued to focus on problem solving.. We will finish up unit 4 next week and will take the end of unit assessment. We will also pre-test to see what skills we need to focus on in Chapter 5. Science: We are beginning to learn about characteristics that make an animal a reptile or mammal We are also looking the food chain and how animals eat smaller animals. We will continue our studies and learn about animal adaptations. We took nine subtests this week that looked at word skills, math skills and problem solving skills. Results will be available to parents soon. Do you tweet? Would you like to see more pictures of what we are working on in class? Follow us on Twitter! Our class name is mrspanockd70 and see what we are tweeting! Please continue working on your animal research projects. They are due on March 14th. We are looking forward to sharing our research with you on March 16th at Open House/Spring Sing. |
